Alan graduated from South San Francisco High School in 1980, he then joined the Marine Corps, following a family tradition of military service. Alan is a third generation Marine; he enlisted, June 23, 1980, and Retired a Marine Gunnery Sergeant, December 12, 2005. Alan’s military service included active and reserve duty and he served in the Panama Conflict and the Iraq War. Some of his active duty training includes graduating from Military Police Academy, where he served as a MP at Camp Pendleton California. He also attended National University, studying Administration of Justice in San Diego.
After leaving active duty service, Alan attended Skyline College earning an AA degree in Physical Education. In 1991, he attended the Reserve Police Officer Academy at College of San Mateo. Shortly after, Alan was hired by the California Department of Corrections and attended the CDC Academy in Galt, Ca. He was assigned to California State Prison San Quentin, where he served as a Correctional Officer.
On January 22, 2001, Alan was hired as a Correctional Officer by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a Correctional Officer in the Maguire Correctional Facility. Alan quickly became very familiar with the facilities operation and he developed a leadership role with his peers. His positions include Jail Training Officer, Leader of the Emergency Response Team, Sheriff’s Officer Recruitment Team and STC Instructor for the Sheriff’s Office Training Unit. Alan’s leadership and expert knowledge of the facility assisted him with his next assignment of Facility Fire and Life Safety Officer.
